"O King whom all the peoples desire, you are the
cornerstone which makes all one. O come and save humanity, whom you made from
clay."
Dakar
has been in a constant and even frantic state of construction for our entire
seven and a half years here. There’s practically no more land to build on here
on the peninsula, so more recent building has either been to tear down and
start over, or else to build up—adding a second, third, or fourth story.
In
either case, a firm foundation is necessary. Not only the cornerstone, the
entire base layer needs to have the strength to support what goes above it. And
even a single story construction these days has a foundation worthy of a three-
or four-story structure. Just in case.
Our
cornerstone—our foundation—is the Christ, the Messiah, the one for whom we
wait, the one who is (paradoxically) already among us. Even with feet of clay,
we can’t help but be held up by such a firm foundation.
Advent
re-creation,
Peter
